There are some things in life we should always do – washing your fruits and veggies is one of them. Even if you buy the 3 times washed organic salads in a package I would still wash that. You can never be too careful.
Here are a couple suggestions:
Fill the sink with water, add 1 C. vinegar and mix. Add all fruit and soak for 10 minutes. Water will be dirty and fruit will sparkle with no wax or dirty film. Great for Berries too–keeps them from molding. You can also use apple cider vinegar if you want to spend more money for that alternative. This apparently also keeps your berries fresher longer.
OR
Fill sink the with water and add Himalayan or Sea salt. Washing with 2% of salt water will remove most of the contact pesticide residues that normally appear on the surface of the vegetables and fruits.
About 75-80% of pesticide reduces are removed by cold water washing. The pesticide residues that are on the surface of fruits like grapes, apples, guava, plums, mangoes, peaches and pears and fruity vegetables like tomatoes, brinjal and okra require two to three washings.
So, whether you are just eating an apple or stir-frying vegetables, be sure to scrub them to get them good and clean before you eat them.
