About Mary Jane
Mary Jane O’Byrne is a registered Acupuncturist , Nutritional Microscopist, and Certified Biofeedback Therapist with a specialty in Stress Management. Mary Jane practices Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a holistic medical system which has been successfully diagnosing, treating and preventing illness for more than 23 centuries.
Mary Jane first became interested in TCM in 1996, when she was helping her Mum who had very bad heel pain. “We had tried everything and she just couldn’t walk. Finally we went to see a Chinese Medicine practitioner. After just one treatment he fixed her heel pain. I decided then and there that I wanted to learn to do that. “
Mary Jane graduated from the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2000 and started her own practice. She explains why she loves Chinese Medicine: “I love how old it is. Everything is tried and true which means there is no guess work. At the same time there is room for intuition and to incorporate modern styles of medicine.”
Prior to forming Health Matters, Mary Jane worked with high risk teens at Project Alive. She worked closely with hospitals to assess suicide risk in the teenagers. After working with a lot of stressed out doctors, nurses and teens she learnt the real impacts of stress on the body. She created the Total Wellness Program to address the effects of stress, anxiety and depression on the body.
Among many modalities, Mary Jane incorporates lifestyle coaching, counselling, nutrition and acupuncture to restore and sustain optimum health.
