A Positive Approach to Weight Loss

At Health Matters we often meet people who have struggled with losing weight. They have tried diets and programs to lose weight but with limited success. For some people, their body just doesn’t seem to let go of the weight even when they are doing all the right things. For others, the weight goes back on as quickly as it came off leading to cycles of yoyo-dieting.

Unsuccessful weight loss efforts can be  demoralizing and result in reduced self esteem and diminished energy. Many of our clients come to us because they have almost lost hope of sustained, significant weight elimination.

At Health Matters we address the emotional, mental and physical aspects of creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a weight loss program. We use live blood analysis to look for any internal factors that may be affecting your ability to lose  weight we customize our programs for your specific needs.

We are happy to be your partner in having a successful experience with any of the other weight management programs available (e.g. weight watchers, biggest winner).Some people have good success with other programs and simply need a tune up. There are several protocols that we have used at Health Matters and we have had success with each one. There are occasions however  where a combination of protocols are what would best serve you. Everything is decided together as a team.

hCG Protocol

The hCG diet, created by Dr A.T.W. Simeons, is well known and like every protocol is not for every body. Generallyspeaking people lose between 1 and 3 pounds a day on this regime and experience positive changes to their metabolism and the shape of their bodies. The effectiveness of the hCG diet is partly because it reduces cravings and overeating. You experience being less hungry and more satisfied with smaller portions which makes it easy to maintain over time.  I have seen this protocol be successful in many of my clients. Paleo Protocol

The Paleo diet is one the healthiest way you can eat because it brings you back to a real food diet.. This is a very nutritionally dense diet and works to help you lose weight, look better and feel more vital by expressing your genes in a favorable light.   It is meant to emulate how our hunter-gatherer ancestors ate by slowly adding in real food and crowding out and eventually eliminating processed foods, trans fats, dairy, sugars, grains and legumes.  There are many variations to this diet and what variation is most appropriate will be determined by what suits you and your lifestyle.  Together we will work on a plan to add back in dairy and legumes if after a sufficient elimination period you do not feel any adverse effects.

KetoGenic Protocol

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, adequate-protein and low-carbohydrate diet.  This diet has been used for years in treating epilepsy in children and more recently has been growing in popularity as an amazing tool for weight loss.  With our modern diet the majority of people burn glucose from carbohydrates for fuel, but after several weeks of eating a ketogenic protocol this diet forces the body to burn fats rather than carbohydrates.  Many people experience weight loss but also a lifting or clearing of brain fog to create clearer thinking. these are just two of the many benefits from following the KetoGenic Protocol .

AIP – Autoimmune Protocol

The Autoimmune diet is geared to helping people with autoimmune conditions, like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimotos, M.S, Parkinsons, ect. Autoimmune disease is caused your bodies inability to distinguish itself from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses.  Your body attacks your own cells in an effort to destroy the enemy and depending on your genetics it may show up in one or multiple parts of your body.  This diet focuses on a real food diet much like the paleo diet, but in order to work on clearing up or helping your body, you eliminate all potential food allergens.  Every body is unique however there is much research showing that the most likely food allergens are: dairy, legumes, grains, sugars and nightshades.  By eliminating these high risk foods you allow your gut to heal and inflammation to dissipate  Every body is unique in what you can tolerate and if after a sufficient elimination period where you no longer are dealing with autoimmune issues together we will work on slowly adding back in certain foods.

Elimination Diet Protocol

The Elimination Diet is a very much like a reset of your system.  The goal is to uncover unknown food allergens that may be impeding weight loss and causing ill health.  In my experience this is the best way to do that and the most cost effective.  You start from basics with an elimination diet for 30 days, together we will work on a plan to add back in foods in a specific order.  By allowing your body to heal and lower inflammation you will be able to tell what foods you are sensitive to and thus make the necessary adjustments. Like Paleo the most common foods that are eliminated are dairy, sugars, corn, soy based products, gluten and gluten free products ,grains, and certain fats to name a few. It sounds like there isn’t much left but that is the furthest thing from the truth. Let us show you how to enjoy foods that make you feel good and contribute to your energy not take it away.
