I found this great article on food cravings in the New York Times by Anahad O’Connor that I wanted to share with you. He mentions that all calories may not be created equal. This is important because many diets talk about your daily calorie limit and staying within it to lose weight. But a study a new study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggest that these high-glycemic foods like many sugary foods and drinks, white bread and other processed carbohydrates may influence the brain in a way that might drive some people to overeat. High-glycemic foods cause abrupt spikes and falls in blood sugar and appear to stimulate parts of the brain involved in hunger, craving and reward, the new research shows.
